I was on the train last night heading home from work and I looked at my bag, I realized that my hand sanitizer holder was empty.
Last year, right after Patrick had been released from the hospital before starting chemo, my sisters and I went on a trip to the mall. Three adult sisters on a night out would typically focus on movies, cocktails, my sisters convincing me to buy make up, and shoes.
We of course had cocktails, but then the focus was on something else. Picking out hats for Patrick, and making sure that we all stocked up on hand sanitizer.
When a family member is going through chemo, this is one of those things that affects everyone. Keeping that one person healthy is the most important thing on everyone's mind, and even a sniffle can be dangerous to that person.
Seeing that empty hand sanitizer holder made me realize that life is normal. To think that many of the people that we have encountered go through this for years is impossible to imagine.
