What is World Wide Knit in Public day? This is the largest knitter run event in the world.

When is World Wide Knit in Public day?
The event actually lasts for 1 week in 2013, June 8th -13th.

Why am I telling you this? Well, of course I have a reason. Last year PatPat's Hats had a WWKIP event at the Prudential Center in Boston. We gathered and knit hats together for children. It was a small group. But even that small group was able to knit more than 10 hats that day. (Yes, Crocheters can Join as well)

Along with our 10 hats, I met Ron, who arrived with more than 20 hats for PatPat's Hats!!!! What a wonderful friend for us to meet.

Well, how can you help? WWKIP events are Easy to arrange. You set the day and time, and tell your friends. If you go to the WWKIP website you can register your event. This means that other people will be able to find your event.

Where can you host your WWKIP event? Anywhere !!! A bookstore, the library, the town green, maybe your Local Yarn store. All I ask of you is that people make hats for PatPat's Hats.

All of the hats made on WWKIP will be sent to Jessie's Joy jars, so we are hoping for Beanie's, or hats that easily fold up. As many of you know, Jessie's Joy Jars are distributed to children in hospitals throughout the world. This organization has allowed PatPat's Hats to expand our outreach to children as far away as New Zealand. we could never have reached this many children without them. We will also be reaching out to an organization that is in need of Preemie hats, as we are sure they will be knit.

What is my goal? It's a big one. Think we could get a WWKIP event for PatPat's Hats in each state? If you get just 10 hats from each event, and we have an event in each of the 50 states, well that means 500 hats will be collected that day.

Why am I telling you about WWKIP? It's simple. I am looking for a few good crafters to put together a WWKIP event in their home towns to support PatPat's Hats. If we get an event in all 50 states just THINK of the hats that we can collect.

This year, all of the hats collected from WWKIP events will be sent sent to Jessie's Joy Jars.  We are honored to be a part of this amazing organization, and they have helped send PatPat's Hats all the way to New Zealand!!!

I know it's early to start thinking about events in June, and of course I will remind you about this through our Facebook page (WHAT ? You aren't following us on Facebook? Well, what are you waiting for?).
