Why ?
It's funny to me how often I get asked questions like:
Why do you donate hats, don't you want a pair of socks?
Yes, I DO knit for myself (I have a beautiful sweater on the needles right now, it's stunning). However, I LOVE to knit, and I LOVE sharing my knitting with people in need.
Why do you donate blood? doesn't it hurt?
You are right, donating blood, or platelets, hurts. Would you prefer being so weak going through chemo only to find out that there were no blood products to boost your immune system? Or going through surgery to find out that there was no blood to give you?
That hat is SO tiny, who will it fit?
Yes, preemie hats are tiny, are you aware that some children ar born weighing only 1 pound? Sometimes this tiny hat is the only item of clothing that fits them properly.
You talk about your nephew so much, I thought he was better? Does he have cancer again?
Yes, you are correct. My nephew is better. I will SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOF TOPS that he doesn't have cancer anymore and that he is CANCER FREE!!!!!!! I will also shout from the roof tops to share what he went through. To let people know that I am, and will always be, so proud of my nephew. As a toddler he had no way to know that this part of his life wasn't "normal". The hospital was a place that had good toys, and friends to play with. The nurses taught him how to fist bump, and he got to watch all of the blues clues and Fresh beat band that he wanted.
I will always be amazed by the bravery of my nephew, of my sister, of all of the families that we have met along this journey. People that are just trying to live their own lives, and then "this" happens. A major disease that changes your life. Something that will be with you forever.
If you know me in person, you know that I am a HUGE fan of Josh Groban. I find his music beautiful and I could listen to him for hours (he's easy on the eyes as well). When the song "brave" came out, I was stopped in my tracks.
If you ever need a reason to get through something difficult, if you ever believe that something is too hard and you won't make it, remember that you ALWAYS have a Reason to be brave. That reason is all of the children out there that have fought. If you need someone specific, Patrick is always willing to be your reason.

Reach out, reach out before it fades away
You will find the warmth when you surrender
Smile into the fear and let it play
You wanna run away, run away
And you say that it can't be so
You wanna look away, look away
But you stay 'cause it's all so close
When you stand up and hold out your hand
In the face what I don't understand
My reason to be brave
Hold on, hold on so strong, time just carries on
All that you thought was wrong is pure again
You can't hide forever from the thunder
Look into the storm and feel the rain
